The PMW-100 handheld camcorder is part of Sony's XDCAM line, being the most compact and lightweight equipment in this series. With the ability to record in MPEG HD422 the goal of this device is to combine the ease of recording with small and portable equipment, such as cell phones, with the image quality of a professional camera.
The camera is equipped with the 1/2.9-inch "Exmor" CMOS sensor, which offers excellent image performance and achieves a minimum illumination of 0.08lx. It also includes a 5.4-54mm zoom lens.
In addition to the above, the equipment supports recording and playback of Full HD video in 1080i, 1080p and 720p up to MXF of 50 Mbps based on the MPEG HD422 codec using the mpeg HD422 Long GOP standard compression technology. It also supports MPEG HD420 35/25Mbps or 25Mbps DVCAM and the ability to record high-quality 24-bit four-channel audio.
HD/SD-SDI output, composite output, Genlock input, timecode input/output, i.LINK input/output (HDV/DV) and A/V output complement the functionalities of the device.
This product will be available starting in May and has a suggested list price of less than $5,000.
