MinTIC published 5G Plan for stakeholder feedback

Colombia. The Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC), within its "Spectrum Allocation Framework Plan", published the 5G Plan with which the Government begins the implementation of the policy and technical guidelines for the deployment of this technology throughout the national territory.

The document sets out the lines of action to identify the technical, regulatory and regulatory challenges linked to the deployment of 5G, in order to assume the demand and characteristics of new services that will transform the lives of Colombians through greater access to information and technology to close social and economic gaps.

"5G technology will be a major component in the digital transformation of society and the economy of countries in the coming years. This is why it is necessary for Colombia to have a strengthened ICT sector that reaches the entire population and allows it to assume leadership in mobile telephony and internet before 2022," said the Minister of ICT, Sylvia Constaín.

Some of the most anticipated features of 5G networks are the speed of internet browsing (low latency); high availability (ability of the system to offer an active service for a high percentage in a defined time), and the increase in the quality of the mobile service to reduce failures and provide greater satisfaction to users.

This network will facilitate the implementation and exploitation of emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), facilitate access to telemedicine and education services, and will be the basis for the development of smart city projects, among others.

For the second semester, interested parties will be invited to participate in the call for the deployment of pilots that will focus on collecting inputs through the application of specific cases of 5G technology.

Similarly, the Colombian administration highlights the spectrum that will be identified for 5G, at the World Radiocommunication Conference 2019 (WRC 19), according to the needs and current state of telecommunications networks in the country.

MinTIC invited those interested to send their comments and ideas to the email [email protected].
