Colombia. The company FOX International and the Colombian RCN Television announced an alliance to create a new channel of open signal in Spanish, aimed at the Hispanic audience in the United States, which amounts to about 50 million people.
As it transpired, the channel, which will be called Mundofox, will be nourished with productions from RCN, its NTN24 news network, as well as content from Fox Deportes, Shine Group and independent providers. The contents they will transmit are focused on news, series, documentaries and programs of daily life.
Neither Gabriel Reyes, president of RCN, nor Hernán López, president of FOX Internacional, revealed the amount of the investment that the two companies will make, only saying that each will be with a 50% stake in an investment classified as important, required to make direct competition to Univision and Telemundo.
As there are currently no free-to-air frequencies available for new channels in the United States, the new FOX and RCN channel will require partnerships across the country. It is also rumored that they could buy Telefutura, but they have not yet confirmed. The long-term goal is to reach 75% of American households.
Fox International operates 350 channels in 35 countries around the world and has been successful and recognized with three networks: Fox Deportes, Utilísima and Natgeo Mundo, while RCN is one of the leading producers and exporters of Spanish-language television.
Mundofox's signal will be on the air in the second half of 2012.
