International. Apple TV unveiled a special Major League Soccer (MLS) match recorded exclusively with the iPhone 17 Pro, marking the first time this phone was used to capture the entirety of a live professional sporting event.
Developed in collaboration with MLS, this historic broadcast featured the match between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC, broadcast live on Apple TV from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, during the final MLS weekend before the 2026™ FIFA World Cup regular season break in North America.
The iPhone 17 Pro captured live footage throughout the match, including the warm-up of the teams on the field, the presentation of the players, the angles of the goals and the atmosphere inside the stadium.
With cameras located throughout the venue, the broadcast delivered the pristine video quality fans have come to expect, along with dynamic new perspectives that bring viewers closer to the action, thanks to the iPhone's compact size.
Apple TV first incorporated the iPhone into the live stream of sporting events during the September 2025 Friday night baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers. To do this, he used the iPhone 17 Pro to capture key moments of the match and cinematic shots from the stadium.
This historic production received recognition from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, which added an iPhone used in the broadcast to its permanent collection.
The iPhone 17 Pro features three 48 MP Fusion cameras, which offer the equivalent of eight lenses in a compact form factor, plus professional video features such as Apple Log 2, used in this weekend's stream.
Following the excellent reception of Friday night baseball production, Apple expanded the use of iPhone to other sports broadcasts, including the MLS Cup in 2025, before further integrating the technology into regular Friday night baseball production and MLS broadcasts during the 2026 season.
The match between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo FC marked a new milestone: the first live professional sporting event captured entirely on an iPhone.
