Latin America. Blackmagic Design unveiled the new Video Assist 2.3 version for both Blackmagic Video Assist models that includes three-dimensional conversion tables. This launch also offers new features for the 5-inch model, including compatibility with DNxHD/HR formats, the false color function and greater options in terms of focus and rotation of the screen.
The new Video Assist 2.3 version is currently on display during the InterBEE trade fair at the Blackmagic Design facilities (booth 8216).
With this update, users can upload up to six three-dimensional conversion tables by monitoring images on the set with the 5-inch and 7-inch Blackmagic Video Assist models. These have become an indispensable tool in the field of digital cinematography, since they allow to give the material captured by the cameras an appearance similar to that desired by the director.
The advantage of monitoring in this way is that the film crew has the possibility to view the recorded content according to the style that the director has in mind, without altering the original images recorded by the camera. This update allows you to store and apply up to six three-dimensional conversion tables, and is available for Blackmagic Video Assist and Blackmagic Video Assist 4K models.
For users of the 5-inch version, this new update offers features that had already been added previously to the Blackmagic Video Assist 4K model.
These include the ability to save DNxHD and DNxHR files in MXF format, which improves compatibility with such Avid applications on Windows. On the other hand, when recording, users can choose the HQ, SQ and LB variants, as well as different transmission speeds.
At the same time, the new Video Assist 2.3 version offers the opportunity to create false color images to check the exposure level. This tool makes it easy to adjust this parameter in different areas using solid colors to highlight specific luminance ranges. For example, green corresponds to neutral gray, while pink is a good reference for skin tones. The use of this innovative feature allows cameramen to maintain a constant exposure value between shots.
The new version also provides additional focus options that allow the user to view the traditional indicator or select one of the different colors available. This provides the ability to make adjustments more accurately in a wide variety of scenes and in different lighting conditions. On the other hand, now the automatic screen orientation function can be disabled, in order to facilitate the use of the device with stabilizers and other equipment designed to move the camera and its platform simultaneously.
Video Assist 2.3 is now available and can be downloaded for free from the Blackmagic Design website.
