IBC. Blackmagic Design announced the acquisition of two companies that will strengthen its product portfolio. The first of these is Ultimatte, a chrominance composition company for the broadcasting, advertising and cinematography industries.
Ultimatte is recognized worldwide for delivering results with professional quality, in which it is not possible to distinguish between virtual and real sets. It also creates equipment to eliminate in real time the green or blue screen used in recording studios to superimpose the image of journalists and presenters on virtual backgrounds.
Almost all reporters or meteorologists work in front of this type of screen when giving the news or the weather report. For the past 40 years, the company has been responsible for manufacturing the computer and physical support needed to combine the images of these people against maps, stock diagrams and other graphic elements. In fact, Ultimatte's products are being used to achieve completely fictional recording sets.
Ultimatte employs advanced image processing in 4:4:4:4 format and provides enhancements to mask controls that allow users to separate the subject from the background accurately. In addition, it provides features to adjust the composition and direct and indirect light, as well as suppression tools and controls for elements at the edges, all in real time.
Ultimatte was founded in 1976 and has been awarded not only an Oscar, but also an Emmy, thanks to its real-time composition technology, and the Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The second is Fairlight, a company that develops products for digital audio used in creating surround sound mixes, streaming live events, and post-production of film and television projects.
Fairlight has an outstanding track record in the design and manufacture of integrated audio consoles and computer applications recognized for their exceptional quality, speed and flexibility.
The Fairlight Live product line includes mixing consoles designed for the most demanding live productions and provides users with advanced technology for audio processing, with control surfaces comprising between 12 and 60 attenuators, and input and output interfaces with redundancy systems to carry out critical tasks in transmission studios, outdoor mobiles, religious centers and rooms for the realization of various shows.
Fairlight also manufactures a wide range of products for the field of post-production ranging from compact workstations for mixing to consoles with special controls. The audio engines produced by Fairlight have a capacity of 1000 tracks and allow to create compositions of great complexity without previous mixes, in addition to offering 64 channels to monitor audio signals.
