Latin America. Sony has announced new features that will allow news collectors to stream live footage wirelessly directly from cameras as they record, a move that has been put in place to dramatically speed up production workflows. Based on Sony's wireless technology, several XDCAM 1 camcorders in the PXW series will now be able to stream live footage, while the CBK series wireless 2 adapters will be able to unlock live streaming on any camera with an SDI connection.
This pioneering technology, which is set as an important milestone in ENG, will help you unlock the agility, flexibility and efficiency needed in this highly competitive world of modern broadcasts, offering organizations of all sizes a cost-effective solution for live broadcasts. Sony's wireless adapters and camcorders will make it possible to transmit directly to broadcast stations or mobile production units, from anywhere, via 3G, 4G, LTE or WiFi transmissions to the PWS-100RX1 network RX station.
The entire broadcast solution is based on QoS QoS QoS technology to prevent packet loss during the transmission process, which can degrade or freeze the quality of images and spoil audio. Since signal reliability is absolutely essential to broadcast workflows, this unique technology intelligently adjusts bandwidths and buffering to deliver reliable, high-quality transmissions without the need for users to manually modify settings.
Users will also be able to upload their content directly to cloud solutions such as Sony's Ci through constant automatic uploading. Thanks to the complete automation of this process, camera operators will be able to easily create cloud-based backups of all material. What's more, Sony's Catalyst production toolkit can be used to prepare material directly from the camera before it reaches the hands of editors, including review, registration and transcoding.
The technology has been developed with the advice of several news camera operators and different broadcast media, including ITV News, which has already successfully tested its optimized CBK-WA100 adapters.
"Having worked with media and camera operators, we have developed a solution that solves the problems that newsagers are facing at the moment," says Lucie Wendremaire, Head of Product Marketing at Sony Professional Europe. "We are collaborating to make ENG as efficient and agile as possible, as this new live streaming capability will free collectors from transporting cumbersome equipment. Thanks to this technology, a solo news collector could capture events as they occur and send the broadcast-ready material in 1.5 seconds."
This new feature is part of Sony's current strategy for developing end-to-end solutions that help customers transform their workflows and work as efficiently as possible.
Designed with the aim of offering a simple configuration, the PWS-100RX1 network RX station will be easily installed in broadcast stations or mobile production units to receive live broadcasts, with a price of € 7700. The price for Sony's CBK-WA100 and CBK-WA101 wireless adapters is €1300. Internal live streaming capability is now included in Sony's latest XDCAM camcorders, including the PXW-X180, PXW-X200 and PXW-X500 models.
