Argentina. The Ministry of Industry of Argentina announced that from December smartphones with access to open digital television, TDA, will begin to be sold in their country.
To begin marketing this equipment, the Argentine government has the support of commercial companies, telephone manufacturers and the three cell phone companies that operate in that country: Telefónica, Telecom and Claro, who committed to present in the coming days their respective communication plans to promote the sale of cell phones that will be produced in Tierra del Fuego.
The agreed bidding scheme begins with 100,000 devices from December, based on the proposal jointly promoted by the industry and the Argentine government. By January the figure will be 120,000; in February 170,000; in March 240,000 and from the second quarter of 2013 it is expected to reach 400,000 units.
The Minister of Industry, Débora Giorgi, highlighted the "importance of the dissemination of the inclusion of the service of the Open Digital Television System and stressed that access to these contents constitutes a State policy, which has been launched by the Executive, and with which companies must commit".
Currently digital television in Argentina reaches 75% coverage of the entire territory.
