Ecuador. With a donation from the Japanese government, Ecuador began testing digital terrestrial television under the Brazilian-Japanese model or ISDB-TB, adopted by that country two years ago.
The donation consists of 742 educational programs and documentaries that will be broadcast initially in Quito, through the public television RTVEcuador. The news was announced during the closing of the IV International Digital Television Forum that took place in that country and in which 14 Latin American countries participated.
At the event, representatives of the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society, Mintel, indicated that all the government policies necessary for the implementation of DTT are already ready.
Among these actions are the elaboration of memorandums of understanding with the governments of Brazil and Japan, as well as the agreement between different Ecuadorian ministries for the formation of a technical committee for the introduction of Digital Terrestrial Television in that country.
This committee is responsible for the development of a comprehensive dissemination plan for the implementation process, as well as the design of user protection standards and training on digital television for them.
