Argentina. Cablevisión seeks to stimulate the demand for video among its Argentine customers, both internet service and cable TV. That's why it acquired Alcatel-Lucent's 100G coherent optical network solution.
The solution seeks to deliver services at speeds of 100 gigabits per second (100G), increase performance and service speeds, and be able to respond to the growing demand for video, multimedia, and internet applications.
This acquisition was motivated by the depletion of the company's fiber capacity due to the growing traffic and number of subscribers of the operator. They will now be able to respond to traffic volume and reduce the complexity and cost of services.
Gabriel Carro, engineering manager of Cablevisión Argentina, said that "With the Alcatel-Lucent solution we are taking an important step to provide a secure network for the future and highly flexible, which can reach 100G and support current and future bandwidth demands with improved performance and reduced time to implement new services in the market."
Alcatel-Lucent supplies its 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) solution with next-generation 100G consistent technology to improve capacity scalability and is designed to meet the enormous bandwidth demand generated by video, web applications, file sharing and high-definition movies.
Cablevisión Argentina thus becomes the first cable TV network with 100G capacity deployed in South America.
