Ecuador. La Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN) of Ecuador won the contest "Equip your university for the development of digital terrestrial television applications", organized by the ministries of telecommunications of Brazil and Ecuador in order to reaffirm cooperation in the region in the area of DTT.
This contest, which aimed to create interactive applications for digital television, crowned the Department of Electronics of the EPN who presented a proposal in which four areas were identified within which several interactive applications for Digital TV will be developed such as natural hazards, environmental issues, higher education and telecommunications services.
The winners will have the equipment for the creation of an interactive application development laboratory donated by the Brazilian Agency for Cooperation (ABC).
This technological incentive granted to the academy comes at a key moment for Ecuadorians, the country is going through a crucial stage in the transition to DTT because it is at the time where the necessary policies and regulations will be established that will allow regulating this technology for its introduction in the first instance and subsequent massification.
For the Ministry of Telecommunications, "with the arrival of digital television in the country, the radio spectrum will be optimized and new audiovisual and interactive services will be incorporated." In addition, the dissemination of content in education, health and culture will be promoted, which improve the quality of current programming.
