International. A 33% increase in Internet video consumption over 2009 occurred during 2011, according to the results of yahoo's "The Power of Relevance" study.
Tony Marlow, director of the portal's U.S. research division, presented the results of the study during the Ficod Digital Content Forum , held in Madrid and for which 4,100 surveys were prepared.
He indicated that the main differences found were evidenced in prime time. While in 2009 the consumption of online video decreased between six in the afternoon and nine at night, this year the consumption is maintained and in some cases increases.
On the quality of the video that is consumed, Tony Marlow indicated that short videos that show a particular situation are still the most viewed with 75% of the total and the rest is professional video.
But this trend may change for the next few years, because the consumption of professional video online tends to increase due to the fact that people can increasingly access movies and TV series on portals such as Netflix and Hulu.
This would be one of the reasons why the demand for online video in prime time increased during the last two years. According to figures provided by Tony Marlow, the consumption of television content through the web increased by 72% in that period, while that of films reached 50%.
