Colombia. Cinemotion Labs is the new event specialized in film production and post-production for Latin America, which will be held on August 11 and 12, 2026, in the city of Medellín, Colombia.
During the last few years, different Colombian governments have provided strong support to the film industry with the aim of turning the country into a destination for international filming, as well as to encourage national production.
To achieve this, productions can benefit from the Film Law (Law 814) and Law 1556, which include the Colombia Film Fund (40% reimbursement in audiovisual services and 20% in logistics) and the Audiovisual Investment Certificates (CINA), which grant a 35% tax discount.
And the objective is being achieved. According to the balance of the sector presented by Proimágenes Colombia, in 2025 73 titles made in Colombia were released. The predominant genres were documentary and drama.
This growth has also marked a development of the sector, as is the case with technology. In the country it is easy to find the latest technology for the film industry, thanks to the work done by rental houses and distributors. And professionals in the sector are increasingly better prepared to take on any type of production.
In addition to this national panorama, Medellín is aiming to become a hub for film and audiovisual production, for which it has been working on a public-private alliance that has allowed us to work together for this objective.
Thus, in addition to the national economic benefits for film production, there are benefits that the local government provides to productions made in the city, through the Film Commission.
But this is not the only benefit that Medellín provides. It also has a fund to finance local productions, training and education in audiovisual and cinematographic skills, support for the formalization and internationalization of companies and the construction of the new cinematheque is in the pipeline, which will house all the programs for the promotion of the sector.
According to data from the Secretariat of Economic Development of the Mayor's Office of Medellín, the creative industries in the city have grown by 7% annually in the last decade. In addition, during 2025 they supported the filming of 80 productions in the city, participated in 11 markets and festivals, with 5 productions attracted, 8 fam trips made, capturing 2 films that will be filmed in 2026.
From the private initiative, the Chamber of Commerce created a Creative Industries Cluster, in which it promotes the formalization of the local audiovisual industry, as well as improving the competitive capacities of companies in the sector.
Another private initiative is the Elpauer de Comfama program, a platform for business development in the audiovisual and music industries. Its purpose is to accompany creators in the generation and restructuring of their ideas, projects and business models; updating their business skills; enabling creative and financial synergies; and connecting them with opportunities at the local, national and international level.
A few years ago, the Association of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Companies of Medellín and Antioquia, Meca, was formed, which today has 30 local affiliated companies and works to promote the sector.
All these entities, both public and private, as well as their programs, work in an articulated way so that the growth that the sector is having in the city is in an organized manner.
In addition to this panorama of the film industry in Medellín and Colombia, Cinemotion Labs is added, a space that will become the meeting point for technology and networking in the sector.
Schedule this unmissable event for the film industry now. Organized by TVyVideo+Radio and its publishing house Latin Press Inc., Cinemotion Labs will be held on August 11 and 12 in Studio 2 of the Telemedellín Channel.
