Colombia. On March 4, the Association of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Companies of Medellín and Antioquia, Meca, held its fourth meeting, which brought together the local industry and international guests, from Ecuador and Peru, who came to learn about the model that Medellín is applying with an interest in replicating it in their countries.
Ana Ligia Jaramillo, director of Meca, gave TVyVideo+Radio an assessment of what happened during the day: "It is an excellent balance. We are showing everything that is being done in the city, which makes it a creative hub. We are becoming more and more an audiovisual mecca for the world and working in an aligned way is incredible. This would not have been possible if the public and the private had not been aligned."
He added that "We had almost 600 people registered. International guests, which was last year's promise, was something very important. I believe that these connections, this networking, aligning the ecosystem, that everyone listened to the opportunities of everything we have here, that is a very important achievement."
Within the framework of the event, for the first time they offered virtual training in partnership with the University of Medellín and Blackmagic Design. More than 60 people participated in this training simultaneously, with participants not only from Colombia, but also from Mexico, Spain, from all over the world connected.
Talent platform
As part of Meca's work for the local industry, with its more than 30 affiliates it currently has, during its 2026 Meeting, the Talent Platform was presented. This is a platform to connect professionals in the audiovisual and film industry with the productions that come to the city.
Ana Ligia Jaramillo explained that "Many people from other places, from other countries, tell me, how do I manage to be in Mecca? We only bind companies legally incorporated in Medellín and Antioquia. That was the dream, that's where I have to govern myself. But we have found other figures and natural people who cannot be there, but there is a lot of talent here and our companies need that talent. So we said, we are going to make this talent platform with curatorship, because there is a company Meca, Sigma, that has casting, they are the ones who are in charge of affiliations, that is, to do a curatorship and have a work with talent judgment."
In addition, he pointed out that "We are going to convene, to organize all this talent and to make it available to this entire ecosystem, to be able to unite the tips, be in Mecca and participate in another moment, in another way, where it is a win-win for everyone. This time on a platform where talents can offer their services for companies that come to make productions in the city."
The Director of Meca concluded that "Our job is to bring together and add with all the actors so that we achieve great things, here they are not egos, here they are not selfishness, here it is not that this is done. No, here it was a sum of everything. And between the public and the private. This is the harvest of what we are experiencing."
