Chile. The Office of the Ombudsman for Children and the National Television Council, CNTV, signed a collaboration agreement between both institutions, in order to formalize a strategic alliance that will promote the protection and respect of the human rights of children and adolescents.
The President of the National Television Council, Mauricio Muñoz, indicated that "One of the central issues linked to the role and mission we have as a Council is the protection of children. That is why we are gratified to have the advice and experience of the Children's Ombudsman's Office, because we know that it will be a great contribution to the work of the different areas of the CNTV."
Areas of the working agreement
The agreement signed by the institutions considers various aspects, such as promoting awareness and education campaigns on the rights of children and adolescents both at the governmental level and in civil society. In addition, activities such as surveys, research, studies, talks, internal training and others related to the rights of children and adolescents are contemplated, especially on the rights to protection against violence and the right to honor, privacy and image of children and adolescents.
On the other hand, the proposal of mechanisms for the control and supervision of television content is being considered to ensure that it does not promote discrimination, abuse, or any form of violence against children and adolescents. Along the same lines, action streams will be established to address complaints related to the violation of the rights of children and adolescents in the television media.
In addition, the institutions will seek to promote the inclusion of educational messages that promote values such as equality, diversity, respect and solidarity in programs aimed at children and adolescents.
