Sony bets on boosting tomorrow's broadcast industry

Sony apuesta por impulso a industria broadcast del mañana

Latin America. Sony announced a series of major workflow, software and hardware updates designed to enable the AV industry to transition to a dynamic asset architecture.

Under the umbrella of Creativity Connected, Sony's professional solutions will enable users and decision-makers to explore new creative and operational possibilities.

Dynamic Media Center
Sony's Networked Live ecosystem, designed to make the most of resources in high-quality live productions, is getting a number of new announcements. Working hand-in-hand with subsidiary Nevion, Sony brings a holistic view to any production looking for end-to-end and platform-agnostic workflows.

Sony has continued to participate in multiple trials around the world, working with mobile operators such as Deutsche Telekom, Orange Poland and 3 Denmark to usher in the era of low-latency 5G live streaming. Workflows include cameras, the CBK-RPU7 remote production unit, and the PDT-FP1 portable data transmitter, which was launched earlier this year, provides robust support for direct 5G transmission from cameras.

IBC 2024 marked the market introduction of the M2L-X: this software-based mixer provides flexibility and capability agnostic in a production workflow thanks to its "off-the-shelf business approach" (COTS) and "virtual private cloud" (VPC) deployment, along with interoperability with third-party applications. M2L-X also integrates seamlessly with a software-defined platform that allows developers to easily create live media applications.

As part of Sony's hybrid production vision, subsidiary Nevion is improving media transport, networking, and resource orchestration between facilities and the cloud. Nevion Virtuoso will offer SRT streaming and advanced HEVC video compression for bandwidth-constrained applications, based on Sony's proven and cutting-edge technology. The Nevion VideoIPath media orchestration platform now supports routing and control of cloud compute resources. In addition, updates to VideoIPath Operate continue to reinvent broadcast control for hybrid live production.

Cloud and AI in Workflow
Sony announced the creation of service-based templates, aligned with specific content use cases such as live production or newsgathering using embedded software running on cloud services and COTS-supported hardware. Building on Sony's strong experience in the live sports industry, these templates will enable users to deploy the most efficient broadcast and production operations based on their needs and resources.

Sony's Creators' Cloud platform is dedicated to the efficient production, sharing and distribution of multimedia content. Since its creation, it has undergone several extensions with specific developments aimed at individuals or companies.

Creator Cloud for Enterprise Ads
To improve post-production workflows, Sony's Ci Media Cloud platform will debut a native integration with Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve at IBC. The integration allows users to search for material stored in Ci, preview it, download proxies, check comments, and upload new cuts, all directly from their non-linear video editing (NLE) software.

Sony's C3 Portal also sees its connectivity to the latest cameras expanded and is now capable of receiving streaming feeds from third-party transmitters such as LiveU or generic SRT encoders, enabling quick and easy deployment of camera feeds to the cloud. Teradek's Node II, Node II CBRS and Node 5G wireless modems can now work with select Sony camcorders to stream or recorded files to C3 Portal. As for the receivers, C3 Portal can connect, among many other options, to the PWA-RX1 streaming receiver software, presented at NAB this year.

Creator Cloud for Retail Ads
Sony announced new features of its Creators' Cloud platform for individuals, including:
• Wired USB connection and shutter angle display for your monitoring and control application
• The Creators' App now allows you to pause/resume transferring photos and videos to mobile devices, incremental transfer, and taking photos while transferring.
• When using the Catalyst Prepare Plugin with the Ci Media Cloud platform, it will now be possible to edit while referencing review comments made by customers. Currently, the Catalyst Prepare Plugin is compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro and will also be compatible with Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve.
