Mexico. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the multimedia market was stressed and new needs arose to be able to continue working, these needs gave a twist to the products that took importance by passing the investment plans of the clients into the background. This is how Daniel Ramírez, Commercial and Engineering Director of Comtelsat, describes the landscape of the industry in recent years.
"The Pandemic left us with a wide range of cloud solutions, solutions that even though they already existed reached maturity in these years and with the need to be able to work from home became the lifeline of operators. In 2023 cloud solutions are a real alternative that our customers see as an opportunity to optimize their flows and find better prices for various services; Solutions such as remote production, cloud editing, cloud storage are options that today are considered as a serious alternative," he said.
For Daniel Ramírez, at NAB Show 2023 the path will be resumed in terms of technology, but now with a large presence of Cloud services and content distribution issues such as VOD, OTT or social networks. It was precisely these issues that marked the business in Mexico for Comtelsat. "2022 was still affected by pandemic issues, but events such as the World Cup or the need for our customers to distribute their content through other means such as OTT or VOD, offered opportunities in other market segments."
From Comtelsat's experience, the shortage of equipment due to low availability from factories mainly affected projects with government institutions. "Investments were stopped because it was impossible to have the equipment in the times that the procurement laws indicate, although apparently in 2023 the delivery times have improved we still do not get the dynamics that the industry needs."
To conclude, Daniel Ramírez indicated that "The Latin American market is very varied and there are large operators that work with the novelties that this industry offers. However, not everyone has the budgets to move at the pace that the industry marks and we can still find operators who are migrating to HD or who are thinking of implementing a centralized production system, fortunately for these operators there are mature technologies that are still supported by the industry and that have affordable prices. The technological gap between the large operators and the rest of the industry can be up to 10 years, which is why there is still a large market for solutions with many years in the market."
