International. Telefónica has made as a pilot a live transmission in 360º of the Barça-Valencia Basket match of the Copa del Rey of the acb through 5G, which is a new immersive way to see shows in real time through virtual reality without being physically in the venue where the event is held.
The public, located in the vicinity of the sports palace José Mª Martin Carpena, Martin Carpena, has been able to follow the match with virtual reality glasses HTC VIVE Standalone and Oculus QUEST with an application developed by the Malaga company VREstudio and Linos Soluciones Informáticas thanks to the transmission made via 5G of the images captured by three 360º cameras located in the Martín Carpena sports palace, one on the basket, another in the referees' area and a third under the basket to cover all angles.
The bandwidth and the ability to transmit data packets at high speed offered by 5G technology, in this case up to 60 Mb / s of upload video, have made possible this immersive experience of watching the game with live virtual reality and 360º as if you were in the Martín Carpena pavilion.
The initiative is part of the 5G Technological Cities project, launched by Telefónica in 2018 to turn Malaga, Talavera de la Reina, Alcobendas, Segovia and Barcelona into real 5G scenarios where both the technological deployment and the use cases that allow to value the capabilities of the new generation of mobile telephony are carried out in parallel. It has had the support of the City of Malaga, manager of the sports hall.
Telefónica has carried out this experience and has used the cutting-edge virtual reality and 360º technology of the Malaga company VREstudio and Linos Soluciones Informáticas, located in the Digital Content Pole of Malaga, in line with the aim of promoting local companies and startups in the projects of 5G Technological Cities.
