Colombia. By resolution 002059 of August 21, 2019 and after receiving the respective expressions of interest from network and service providers, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) declared open the process of granting permits for the use of radio spectrum in the EHF Band.
This process will offer the telecommunications industry new options that will optimize the use of the radio spectrum, in order to promote the growth of the sector and close the digital divide in the country; it is also an opportunity for the sector to take advantage of advances in technology for the benefit of Colombians.
According to articles 1 and 2 of the resolution, the delivery of applications may be made at the MinTIC facilities in Bogotá (Murillo Toro Building: Cra. 8 between streets 12a and 12b) "from 8: 30 a.m. of August 21, 2019" (...) "and until 4:30 p.m. on August 23, 2019."
Another means enabled by the MinTIC for sending applications is [email protected], cases in which "the time of receipt of the email containing the request will be taken into account, so all those received from 12:01 a.m. of August 21, 2019 until 11:59 p.m. of August 23, 2019 will be accepted", reads the document signed by the Minister of ICT, Sylvia Constaín.
Among the benefits offered by the EHF band are the increase in data transmission speed; better agility in deployment; greater capacity to reuse frequencies without interference, and optimization in 4G coverage.
The first process by which the EHF Band was assigned culminated on April 5, granting its use to four operators. The current process will encourage the participation of more network and service providers, resulting in more benefits.
In this way, the Ministry of ICT provides the sector with tools to continue promoting the use and appropriation of ICT among citizens and companies, as a support of vital importance for the economic and social development of the country.
