70% of districts in Peru have FM radio coverage

Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) revealed that more than 70% of the districts throughout Peru already have FM radio coverage (modulated frequency) which allows the citizen to be closer to the important events of the country.

This was highlighted by the Deputy Minister of Communications of the MTC, Virginia Nakagawa, who said that in 2017 the number of authorized broadcasting stations increased by 539, which represents an increase of 86% compared to 2016.

He said that for this year more than 95 channeling plans will be worked on to increase more radios, which include localities of preferential social interest and border areas.

These data were known in the framework of the celebration of World Radio Day, which was held at the headquarters of the MTC. "Today we celebrate World Radio Day and from the MTC we extend our greeting to the entire community of broadcasters in the country and a fraternal embrace to the districts of Huacabamba, Pasco and Pichos in Huancavelica that for the first time have radio stations thanks to the channeling plans approved in 2017", underlined the deputy minister during the celebration.

He pointed out that the towns of Amaybamba in Cusco, Canayre, Huaynacancha and Oronccoy in Ayacucho, which are located in the areas of direct intervention of the Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro rivers (Vraem) have been channeled and it is expected that in the future they will have new broadcasters, which is an investment opportunity in these areas, Nakagawa said.

In addition, he indicated that they will continue to expand these services because they will soon call for two public tenders to grant FM frequencies in different regions of the country.
