NexTV Series Discussed Future of Online Video

Colombia. On November 30, NexTV Series Colombia & Andean 2016 took place at the JW Marriott hotel, attendees enjoyed conferences on TV Everywhere, OTT and the new online video business. It was a meeting point and interaction of the leaders of the free-to-air TV, Pay TV, OTT, and multimedia groups entering the new world of video in Latin America.

The company Dataxis brought together cable operators, DTH, IPTV, film and TV producers, free-to-air TV stations, TV programmers, OTTs, digital executives of newspapers and radios and the music industry in conferences that opened the debate on new business models, Speakers such as Edward Lee VP Content Acquisition, Roku; Katiuska Veliz Marketing Manager TV and video, Telefónica; Natalia Iregui VP of Institutional Relations, DIRECTV; David Londoño Corporate Marketing Director, Claro; Emilio Manjarrés Digital Design & Development Director, Tigo Une; Henry Reyes, President of Max Media; among others, they shared the new knowledge and presented the new business models that they apply from their companies. These meetings strengthen relationships between technology providers, service operators, creative producers, value aggregators and content distributors.

After listening to several speakers talk about the emergence of OTT in the market, I conclude that there is no competition in TV and OTT. The latter become a  complement to TV, consolidating television as a launching pad where OTT positively complements the market. New business models and benchmarking were presented with the markets of the United States, Europe and Asia, seeing how S-VOD OTT, linear Pay TV OTT services, free OTT channels and Multi-Channel Networks are exploding in Latin America revolutionizing the market and the way of doing business.

The company Claro presented the first hybrid decoder that incorporates traditional TV and video on demand services, in this way the services of Claro Video are incorporated into the decoder turning a normal TV into a Smart TV without the inconvenience of changing connection cables to a data network, this Deco has a direct connection to the Claro network of 5 Mbps independent of the user's internet, which guarantees its effectiveness. David Londoño Corporate Marketing Director of Claro told us: "In Claro we care about understanding what our users need and want, in the case of television the user today asks to see what he wants, when he wants and where he wants, in this sense, we have made use of the advantages that technology has offered, in terms of convergence to deliver a new television."

Throughout the event, we enjoyed a series of very successful and punctual talks given by the protagonists of the Latin American market, which ultimately set the trend in the new way of doing business.
