Colombia. The Colombian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (ACACC), headed by its active members, who voted and chose; announced the Colombian films nominated to represent Colombia in the 89th edition of the Oscar Awards and the 31st edition of the Goya Awards, respectively.
For the Oscar Awards, the film Alias María, by José Luis Rugeles, will be in charge of becoming the letter of introduction of our country. A film whose theme speaks of the armed conflict in Colombia and more specifically of the participation of children within that conflict. Rugeles assures that this proposal is a contribution to memory, for the heroes and heroines that we do not know of that other Colombian reality.
Federico Durán, producer of Alias María, assures that this film is reconciliation and its director, considers that both the pre-nomination and the definitive nomination are part of the achievements that the film now makes on its own, where he is no longer behind the production as he did during its development.
For the Goya Awards, the nominee was the film Anna, starring Colombian actress Juana Acosta and directed by Jaques Toulemonde. A production that speaks of the strength of a mother, the desire to conquer the love of her child and prove to herself that she can be an ideal mother. Its director considers that the film is a new proposal of cinema that encompasses a cosmopolitan sense that integrates better with the world.
Likewise, Toulemonde spoke that it was very feasible to be nominated for the Goya, not only for the type of story that is told, but for the trajectory of its protagonist and the fact that it is also a co-production with France. Anna's producer, Diana Ramos, thanked the Colombian Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for seeing something special in the film and filling them with pride along with their team.
Consuelo Luzardo, president of the Colombian Academy of Cinematographic Sciences and Arts, highlighted the relevance of the nominated films and their participation within each of the awards. On the one hand, Alias María, in addition to being a well-made film, shows another look at the conflict. Considers that at a time like this, which Colombia is going through; the film can stand out, thanks to its theme and that it shows unknown situations that happened inside the guerrillas.
On the other hand, Consuelo, spoke of the strength of the film Anna, for containing an intense story that stands out for the great performance of Juana Acosta; who plays a mother with bipolar problems who loves her son. We think it is a strong card for Los Goya, since it has something to compete with against other films that are nominated.
