Mexico. Eutelsat Americas, the Mexican-based subsidiary of Eutelsat Communications, and the Mexican Space Agency (AEM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding within the framework of the International Astronautics Congress that took place in Guadalajara between September 26 and 30.
The Memorandum will promote cooperation between the two organizations and foster the development of Mexico's space and satellite capabilities. As part of the agreement, Eutelsat Americas and the AEM will work together to increase the participation of the academic sector in the development of satellite technology and will have an open forum to exchange information and work on joint projects.
Javier Mendieta, Director General of the Mexican Space Agency, said: "Mexico, through the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, is increasingly strengthening its telecommunications infrastructure and satellite technology to connect the population. To that same end, the Mexican Space Agency makes strategic alliances with entities of great international relevance of the so-called 'triple space propeller', composed of industry, academia and government, in order to develop the national capabilities and space potentialities of our country."
Patricio Northland, Director General of Eutelsat Americas, said: "We are very pleased to strengthen our cooperation ties with the Mexican Space Agency and the SCT. Eutelsat has a long history of collaborating on space policy with the space agencies of the countries in which it operates, as well as working with governments and public entities to leverage satellite communications to bridge the digital divide and build inclusive knowledge societies. This is another milestone that will allow us to continue pursuing this goal and to take the Mexican space sector further."
