Latin America. The Ibero-American Television (TEIb Program) and the Association of Ibero-American Educational and Cultural Televisions (ATEI), in collaboration with the Fair Institution of Madrid (IFEMA), have carried out, on May 25 and 26, a Technological Consultancy as part of the Central American and Caribbean Network initiative, within the framework of the Professional Exhibition of Audiovisual Technology, BIT 2016, held at IFEMA.
This Technological Consultancy was attended by top representatives of the National Radio and Television System – SINART of Costa Rica, Television of El Salvador – Channel 10, TV USAC of the San Carlos University of Guatemala, National Television of Honduras, Suyapa Educational Television of Honduras, Channel 6 of Nicaragua and the State System of Radio and Television – SERTV of Panama, belonging to the Central America and the Caribbean Network initiative.
Highlighting the incorporation of Puerto Rico, through the Puerto Rico Corporation for Public Broadcasting (WIPR), to this initiative, thus joining this Central American and Caribbean network of exchange and production of content, dissemination and training of human resources specialized in the promotion of integration and cooperation of public service televisions in this region.
In addition, on this occasion attended, as guests, the National Television Council – CNTV (Chile), Bolivia TV, Channel 9 of San Luis Potosí (Mexico) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.
The main objective of this consultancy was to contribute to the technological decision-making that the management of public televisions in the region must face. To this end, the first day of work had a program designed by Mr. Pere Vila, Director of Technology, Innovation and Systems of the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE), who also gave the respective conferences. In addition, there were several presentations and experiences of leaders in the sector.
This first day became a space to provide knowledge about digital television, with special emphasis on innovation in this field; offer recommendations on current and future trends in recording and broadcast formats, and advise on issues of autonomous and live transmission systems, as well as in reference to new trends in recording equipment and distribution systems.
On the second day of work, a specific meeting of the Central America and the Caribbean Network initiative was held in which the action plan of this initiative for this year 2016 was worked on and revised.
In this sense, it should be noted that the action schedule for the installation of the satellite equipment provided by TEIb – ATEI in each of the host institutions has been defined, as well as the operation and reception tests of the signal have been scheduled for the months of August – September. In addition, attendees have been presented with the cloud management application that will be used for the exchange of materials between all the televisions that are members of the initiative, whose tests will be carried out in June and which will be operational in July.
In addition, at the end of July the first program in co-production will be launched that will deal with the National Theaters of the Central American and Caribbean region, whose script has been prepared by the pool of screenwriters that was constituted in October 2015 in Havana to work on the scripts of the programs that are co-produced within the framework of this initiative.
The working days ended, in the presence of several Ambassadors, with the projection of a video produced by TEIb – ATEI on the occasion of the IV Centenary of the Death of Miguel de Cervantes in which the Ibero-American Secretary General, ambassadors of Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Panama and Cuba; read a fragment of Don Quixote of La Mancha.
