América Móvil and Telefónica will massify 4G in Peru

Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications through ProInversión awarded Entel Peru, América Móvil Peru and Telefónica del Perú the Good Pro of the band 698 – 806 MHz, better known as the Band 700 MHz that will expand the availability of mobile internet service in broadband with 4G technology, informed the minister of the sector, Jose Gallardo Ku.

He explained that the 700 MHz Band has advantages for the provision of 4G services in rural areas or areas of low population density. He also said that due to its good penetration in buildings, it allows to meet the demand in urban areas, especially in those with high density of buildings and constructions.

"This band will allow to meet at a lower cost the demand for mobile services with high-speed internet, especially in peripheral urban areas, where the population is highly dispersed," he said.

The promotion and concession process was developed by ProInversión, commissioned by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC). Block A was awarded to the company Entel Perú S.A., because it offered US$ 290,206,123, higher than the base price of US$ 284.7 million.

Block B was awarded to américa Móvil Perú S.A.C., offering US$ 306,000,001; and block C the company Telefónica del Perú S.A.A., because it offered US$ 315'007,700. In both cases the base price was US$ 284.7 million.

In the process there were four bidding companies, the fourth was the company Viettel Perú S.A.C. Thanks to this process the State raised US$ 911.2 million for the three blocks of the 700 MHz Band.

It also indicated that it will allow the awardees to offer their customers broadband wireless Internet service for a market that demands increasing speed for access to data, videos and applications such as tele education, tele medicine, etc.

And users will be allowed to have a better internet service, and even operators will be able to offer speeds higher than those required in the contract. Meanwhile, OSIPTEL will be in charge of supervising compliance with these through periodic measurements.
