Peru. With the presence of representatives of broadcaster guilds from 13 countries, the meeting of the International Broadcasting Association, AIR, organized by the National Society of Radio and Television, SNRTV, was held in Lima.
The Minister of Transport and Communications of Peru. José Gallardo Ku, was in charge of inaugurating the meeting of the Board of Directors of the AIR. For his part, José Luis Saca, president of the AIR, highlighted the importance of broadcasting for democratic life and freedom of expression: "In the AIR, we aim to strengthen the full validity of freedom of expression in the three Americas," he said.
For his part, the president of the SNRTV, Abraham Zavala in his central speech said that "Radio and television of open signal are the only means of communication of free and free access for our population, however some companies are privatizing these services by blocking or eliminating the possibility of listening to FM radio on cell phones. In cases of emergency this is aggravated, because the signal goes down and the cell phone is totally useless."
This important meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Communications Javier Coronado Saleh, the general director of the AIR, Juan Andrés Llerena and the first vice president of the AIR Jorge Omar Sosa.
It should be noted that the International Broadcasting Association is the organization that brings together radio and television associations from several countries in the Americas. It is an entity associated with UNESCO that carries out an active work in defense of freedom of expression and information.
The meeting was held at the Swissotel Hotel, where representatives of broadcasting institutions from 13 countries attended, including the National Society of Radio and Television (Peru), the National Association of Broadcasters (United States), the Association of Argentine Broadcasters, the National Television Association (Chile), the Paraguayan Association of Private Broadcasting, the Chamber of Broadcasting of Guatemala, among others.
