Mexico. On March 16, the Second Advisory Council of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, was installed, made up of 15 specialists of recognized prestige in the field of telecommunications, broadcasting and economic competition.
The members of this advisory body were appointed by the Plenary on February 29, considering their extensive experience and accredited capacity in the matters that fall within the competence of the Institute, in accordance with the provisions of article 34 of the Federal Law on Telecommunications and Broadcasting (LFTR).
The members of the Advisory Council form a plural and interdisciplinary group of women and men who have worked in the public and private spheres, as well as in academia and civil society organizations, so their contributions will contribute to the IFT fulfilling its role of promoting an efficient development of telecommunications and broadcasting in the country.
During the installation session, the President of the IFT, Gabriel Contreras, stressed the importance of having this body, because through its recommendations and suggestions the decisions taken by the Institute will be strengthened for the benefit of all users and audiences in the country.
"We are all working to develop public policies that improve competition and allow us to improve the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors. We are living in an exciting moment that, at the same time, gives us the privilege of being able to impact the lives of Mexicans," said the IFT President.
In this Second Advisory Council, in which members who were also part of the first Council will continue to contribute, which will allow continuity and enrich the work of this collegiate body. According to the Law, appointments will be valid for one year, which may be extended for similar periods, indefinitely. It is up to the members of the Advisory Council to elect their president by a majority of votes, who will last one year in office and may be re-elected, as established in the LFTR.
