International. Ericsson has announced plans to form a global business, technology and services alliance with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate cloud transformation for telecom service providers.
New technologies such as mobile broadband and the cloud have transformed the competitive battleground for service providers. Today's leading telecom companies are looking to capitalize on new opportunities such as IC and big data analytics while also driving the latest technologies to improve productivity and efficiency, increase agility, reduce complexity and risk, as well as create unique value for their customers.
Ericsson is working with AWS to help service providers seize these opportunities, drive the convergence of mobile infrastructure and cloud, and provide application developers and service providers with new capabilities that accelerate innovation and enrich the Connected Society.
As part of this announcement, Ericsson is building a global team of experts that focuses on the AWS Cloud and opening cloud innovation hubs with customers, and, in turn, AWS is supporting Ericsson in this effort. Ericsson will bring the expertise of its 25,000 R&D engineers and the workforce and service of 66,000 people – more than 17,000 of whom are consultants and system integrators – to deliver 1,500 projects annually worldwide.
Ericsson will establish cloud innovation hubs with service providers, and has already started working with Australian operator Telstra, which will host the first cloud innovation hub at its Gurrowa Innovation Lab in Melbourne, Australia.
It will also leverage AWS services and expertise to work closely with service providers to implement a cloud adoption framework to meet their unique business objectives. Ericsson's teams will consist of program managers, solution architects and systems engineers who are trained in AWS and Ericsson technologies, bringing together extensive experience in the service provider industry and in the cloud field. AWS supports Ericsson in this effort with a wide range of resources that may include solution architects, professional services, and training.
Enterprise efforts are designed to accelerate cloud take-up through cloud transformation programs, data center integration, and application migration.
