Venezuela. The National Telecommunications Commission sent a communication to Mr. Oswaldo Cisneros, representative of the Digitel C.A. Corporation, a telecommunications operator, in response to the publications made in the national press on Saturday, February 20, 2016, in which it notified a price increase to users.
In this communication, the regulatory body indicated that the cost adjustment does not have the technical endorsement nor has it been reviewed by this body. Based on the complex situation in the last two years, Conatel has made an unequivocal recognition of the problems facing the sector, and specifically, those associated with the lag in prices and tariffs that have been negatively impacting the provision of services.
"Conatel notes with grave concern Digitel's decision to publish a significant increase in the prices of its services, without it having been technically reviewed by this institution or received reasonableness in its application and potential impact. Conatel is concerned that Digitel has informed of this publication just hours in advance and that the communication delivered contains incomplete information. This attitude breaks with Conatel's work scheme with telecommunications companies," the entity added.
Consequently, Conatel required Digitel to stop the application of that adjustment until the Commission has completed the corresponding technical analysis and can discuss with the operator the details of the application. In addition, he asked Digitel users not to make payments with increases until the entity approves them.
