Colombia. Strengthening goPro's presence in the Colombian market is the objective of SportOptic, a wholesale distributor of cameras for Colombia that has been in the country for just over a year.
TVyVideo spoke with Rodrigo Casasempere, commercial manager of SportOptic, who told what is the company's strategy and its experience as a wholesale distributor in Chile, which opened the doors in Colombia.
He commented that "We are a wholesale distributor of sports elements with extensive experience in Chile. Among the brands we handle is GoPro. And since the Colombian market is similar and we have strategic partners who are also here, the company offered us to be its presenter and that's why we arrived at the end of 2013 in Colombia."
With the arrival of SportOptic, the presence of the brand and sales have increased during the last year in Colombia, thanks to the new management that is being given to the image of the company, with an increasing presence in large chain stores and other warehouses specialized in electronics.
Having 90% of the action camera market internationally, 35% in terms of compact cameras and 50% of videos on Youtube with the word GoPro as a label, are some of the figures that support the brand. That positioning has been achieved, in part, by supporting athletes around the world. In Colombia, they are also being strongly linked to sport.
"In September 2014 we started generating a group of athletes and brand ambassadors in Colombia. We currently have 30 people and we want more, but not only from sports, but also travel, military and other sectors that allow us to show the lifestyle that GoPro represents. In the case of Chile, we have about 300 and we want to reach those figures in Colombia," said Rodrigo Casasempere.
Finally, the commercial manager of SportOptic stressed that expectations with GoPro in Colombia are high, because in the country the entire range of its cameras are being offered, with affordable cost for anyone, as well as accessories that facilitate uses in any environment.
