Mexico. The Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, announced that Cadena Tres and Radio Centro were the winning proposals of the tender to operate the two new national open television channels.
The decision, which was taken a week ahead of schedule at the beginning of the process, gives each company 123 coverage areas and with a target population of 106 million 302 thousand 186 people. In making the announcement, IFT President Gabriel Contreras called the process unprecedented and transparent.
He also commented that the offer made by the Radio Centro Group amounted to three thousand 58 million pesos and Cadena Tres presented a proposal of one thousand 808 million pesos. The licenses for each company will have a duration of 20 years.
Additionally, Gabriel Contreras highlighted that Grupo Radio Centro achieved 100 points out of 100 possible and Cadena Tres reached 83.64 points out of 100 possible.
Cadena Tres is one of the companies of the Ángeles Business Group, of Olegario Vázquez Raña, with businesses in different sectors, such as hotels, hospitals, a television channel, a newspaper and a football team. Radio Centro, by Francisco Aguirre, has 15 radio stations in its name.
In this way, the television offer in Mexico is expanded, which until now was concentrated in Azteva and Televisa.
