IFT will tender two national free-to-air TV frequencies

Mexico. The Plenary of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, approved the Call for Public Tender to concession two TV channels with national coverage.

In this way, the intidad complies with the law that created it, through which it had a period of 180 calendar days, from its conformation to comply with the issuance of the Call and referred Bidding Bases, which were published in the Official Gazette, DOF.

It is important to note that, in accordance with the administrative procedure, it is necessary that the Call is first published in the DOF so that the Bidding Rules can be published, so they will be available no later than March 9 on the IFT Internet portal, for free download.

In this way, for the first time in the history of the country, a bidding process can be carried out to assign new concessions of open television frequencies, which seeks to achieve greater competition in this market, for the benefit of the users of this service.

On the other hand, the resolutions to the procedures initiated for the determination of the predominant economic agents in the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors and the imposition of measures to avoid affecting competition and free competition were also approved, as well as the measures for the effective disaggregation of the local network of the preponderant agent in telecommunications, in accordance with the provisions of sections III and IV of the Eighth Transitory Article of the Decree on constitutional reform in the field of telecommunications.

On these resolutions, the Institute will not provide further information until they are duly notified to the economic agents involved in the aforementioned procedures. Once the concessionaires are duly notified, the IFT Plenary will hold a press conference to publicize the details of this and all the resolutions issued in compliance with the constitutional mandates.
