International. An agreement to produce nearly 300 hours of exclusive content for the web during 2014 was reached by the companies Dreamworks and Netflix. This is an endorsement of the good moment that the latter is experiencing, which continues to grow in number of users with a new way of consuming series and movies.
These two companies made it clear that this is a background project rather than an exploration of new markets, because it is not the first time that Netflix produces exclusive content for the web and it is the experience that Dreamworks will take advantage of. In its first exclusive series for its customers, Netflix has invested nearly $100 million.
And while they didn't reveal the economic details of the deal, it did transpire that this was one of three options Dreamworks was looking into to get into online video streaming. The other two were to set up your own web channel or buy a children's network.
Without a doubt, online television is the future of this industry. And although some aspects of the economic model for marketing and advertising have yet to be defined, more and more companies are trying to link to this model.
According to recently released statistics, 50% of Americans watch TV with a second screen in hand, not counting those who have already migrated directly to watch content only from the web.
