Mexico. During the last quarter of measurement, pay TV in Mexico grew in the number of subscribers in a figure not seen more than two years ago, reporting 448,316 new customers.
According to Cofetel data, the growth presented during the first quarter of 2013 was not observed since the third quarter of 2010. As a percentage compared to the last quarter of 2012, growth was 3.46%.
The regulatory body indicated that taking into account that for each subscription to Pay TV 3.5 people have access, on average, about 1.56 million new viewers have pay TV in Mexico. In total, 46% of the country's total population has access to pay-TV service.
According to figures from the Latin American Council for Multichannel Advertising, better known as Lamac for its English abbreviation, if the growth trend in the number of pay-TV subscribers continues during the rest of the year, it could close with about 14.5 million users by the end of 2013.
That is, the penetration of this service in the Mexican population would be 50% at the end of the year.
