Mexico. The bidding process for new frequencies for free-to-air television that must be supplied in Mexico this year must be as transparent as possible, to achieve the greatest benefit for the industry and the country in general.
That was the call to the Mexican government and the agencies in charge of the bidding process made by Santiago Gutiérrez, president of the National Chamber of the Electronic Industry, Telecommunications and Information Technologies, Canieti.
In statements to local media, the official indicated that "a transparent process must be carried out with criteria that balance the interests of the industry and social benefit."
He added that the authorities of the sector should evaluate the possibility of creating two television channels with national coverage, since it would be much more productive and beneficial for all than the project as it is proposed today, that is, a national chain and a group of regional channels. "In this way it would be possible to have greater competition among companies in the sector, as well as more plurality of content," said Santiago Gutiérrez.
It should be remembered that the bidding process for a third free-to-air television network in Mexico has had countless problems to which the Federal Telecommunications Commission, Cofetel, has sought to solve to give new open television options to 93% of the Mexican territory.
