Colombia. Colombia's National Television Authority issued 18 licenses to new subscription television operators in the country, during a process that had not been carried out for 13 years.
According to the information released by the entity, the culmination of this process fulfills one of its goals, which is to open up all television markets, in order for the Colombian population to enjoy better television offers and content and increase the levels of competition among current service providers.
As a result of this tender, 26 departments will have the provision of subscription television in 196 municipalities offered, of those municipalities 152 are municipalities with unmet basic needs and in them the providers committed that in 36 cases the technology of provision is digital.
The 18 licenses granted were awarded to an equal number of proponents who complied with all the requirements of the law and those specified in the specifications. Among them, it was established as an obligation of the proponents that the headers of provision be provided in digital technology.
The ANTV announced that next year a new bidding process for subscription television will be opened, aimed at departments that were not covered this time are covered by new providers of satellite or wired subscription television services.
