United States. With 1.3 million units sold during the second quarter of 2012, for an increase of 170% over the previous year, Apple TV was consolidated as a solution of high demand by viewers.
This device, which allows playback on an HDTV of content from iTunes, Netflix and other Internet-based solutions, totals about 4 million units sold in the last fiscal year.
Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, was in charge of releasing these figures and explained that "we do not want to stay around projects in which we do not believe. There are a lot of people who are believers in Apple TV so we continue to invest in it and see where it takes us."
He further stated that "we believe it will take us somewhere. 4 million is not a small number. It's small compared to iPads or iPhones, but it's not a small number and there are many people who believe in the product."
