Colombia. Results in terms of inclusion, market opening, strengthening of public television and reduction of operating expenses, were presented by the Autoridad Nacional de Televisión, ANTV, in its first three months of operation.
One of the main criticisms of the defunct National Television Commission was the high cost of operation. That is why the anTV board of directors stressed that personnel expenses were reduced more than four times, going from $28 billion to $6.5 billion.
Another factor that he pointed out in his balance sheet was the work aimed at bringing television to all the municipalities of the national territory, a task that is advanced through the Social Satellite Television program, which seeks to bring the television signal to 220 municipalities in the country that lack this service.
He highlighted the modification of the compensation payment scheme made by subscription television operators, establishing a rate of $1,800 per subscriber and not the percentage of profits as was done until now, a measure adopted in order to ensure resources for the development and strengthening of the eight regional channels, Señal Colombia and the Institutional Channel.
It also included in its 2012 Strategic Agenda the opening of bidding processes so that new subscription television and open television operators can enter the market.
With this balance, the four members of the entity, Diego Molano, ICT minister; Jaime Estrada, representative of the Government; Alfredo Sabbagh, representative of the academy; and Alexandra Falla, representative of the governors, want to show that the creation of the ANTV did not simply involve a name change and that, on the contrary, they are implementing world-class solutions and practices in industry regulatory bodies.
