Chile. After four years of trying to approve the new television law in Chile in a slow process that continues to be stopped in the congress of that country, the schedule that had been proposed for the implementation of digital television will not be able to be met.
This was alerted in statements to local media by the Undersecretary of Telecommunications of Chile, Joge Atton, who assured that "Chileans will not be able to see the World Cup in Brazil 2014 on digital television as it was initially proposed."
The official added that in order to move forward with the implementation of digital television, they are analyzing the option of dividing the controversial project into two stages, thus seeking to quickly process what refers to this issue and the other points to deal with them with more time.
Unfortunately in Chile the regulatory problem is progressing much slower than the installation of transmission antennas, and that is why the technical capacity will be installed but cannot be used due to lack of law.
Some of the problems that affect the normal process of the law in the Chilean Congress have to do with particular interests that have had enough force to not allow its approval.
Among the problems is the interest of the channels to charge for retransmission of programs, some signals and different topics of the concessions.
