Colombia. With the approval of the pre-specifications that will allow the contracting of an investment bank, the National Television Authority began the process of awarding the third television channel for Colombia, after it was knocked down by the Council of State when only one proponent appeared at the auction.
According to local media, the investment bank that is chosen must structure the project to award the third channel in three aspects: financial, legal and technical.
If the times estimated by the regulatory entity are met, the contracting of the investment bank must be ready in four months and with the results of its management the necessary conditions for the entry of the third channel will be established.
The differences with the previous award process began to be noticed, as the National Television Authority eliminated the requirement by which interested parties must be registered, qualified and classified in the Single Registry of Operators, as a requirement to opt for a license.
Along with this process, the entity also began the process of awarding a new subscription television operator for Colombia, a process that had not been done since 1999. Through this, it is expected that by the month of October the name of the new player in the pay-TV market in this country will be known.
