Ecuador. Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca will be the first Ecuadorian cities that will have the digital television signal thanks to the Ecuador TV channel, which will be the first to broadcast under the Japanese Brazilian model, as reported by the Ministro de Telecomunicaciones of that country, Jaime Guerrero (photo).
The official stressed that the government's goal is to have 60% of ecuadorian territory covered with digital television by 2016 and that the analog blackout could occur in six years, that is, the goal established for 2017 would not be met.
Currently the Ecuadorian government is in the stage of installing the repeater antennas and defining the methodology by which the required encoders will be provided in homes so that current televisions can work with this signal.
This process is directly accompanied by the government of Japan. As explained by Minister Jaime Guerrero, a few days ago he had a meeting in his country with a Japanese delegation, in which the DTT implementation process was analyzed.
As a result, Koichi Murata was introduced as the Japanese expert who will provide his support for two years in Ecuador. The Inter-institutional Committee for the Implementation of Digital Television was also formed, which will lead the process of the transition to digital television in Ecuador; as well as the progress made to that end.
Within the framework of cooperation, financing is provided to Ecuadorian operators to initiate the process of migration to digital television.
