Paraguay. The political situation that this country is experiencing after the dismissal of the one who until last Friday was its president, Fernando Lugo, ended up affecting the television transmission of the state channel, which went off the air over the weekend by order of the new government.
According to the manager of the public channel, Marcelo Martinessi, police officers and a person who identified himself as the communications director of the new government, prevented the transmission of the riots that were occurring between the police and demonstrators in support of the ousted ruler.
The author of the censorship was identified as Cristian Vázquez, who also prevented the images of the change of government from being broadcast on public television, arguing that they threatened citizens. In addition, he asked for the information corresponding to the entire grid of programs of the channel and requested equipment to use them for the benefit of the new president, Federico Franco.
Following the channel's refusal of the channel's directives to these requests, the signal was suspended over the weekend and the director was dismissed. But the transmission of the riots continued over the internet with the channel's equipment, which caused the suspension of power service in the building where it operates to be ordered.
This situation has generated the support of Uruguayans, who went to the headquarters of the channel to demonstrate for the suspension of the channel's signal, while the workers have not wanted to leave the building. The channel was created by ousted President Fernando Lugo.
