Latin America. A 15% annual growth of the subscription television service in Latin America between 2005 and 2011, according to statistics released by the Business Bureau, within the framework of the last Latam Pay-TV, which was held in Miami.
Horacio Gennari, president of the entity, explained that the forecasts for the coming years, until 2020, estimate that this service will grow in rates between 8% and 10% per year.
On the penetration of this service in the countries of the region, the executive said that it reaches 70%, with the exception of some countries in which it barely reaches 30%. He explained that this penetration is due to the interest of governments and entertainment companies to improve the television offer that the region has.
These new entertainment options are reflected in the growing number of viewers of North American channels, as well as the expansion plans in the region of pay-TV companies.
In statements to the media, Horacio Gennari said that subscription television moves about US $ 10,000 million in Latin America and that it reaches about 44 million homes.
But cable TV companies will also face legal problems in the coming months, especially in Mexico and Colombia. In the first country, the regulator sanctioned four of them for violating the rules of service provision, while in Colombia they are waiting for the National Television Authority to decide on the taxes it charges them per user, which could end with the increase in the rate of the service.
