International. One of the reasons why the internet is transforming the television industry is that people can watch content without the advertising guideline, necessary for channel revenue but annoying for many of the viewers.
Precisely that is one of the main challenges that the industry currently has and for which different solutions have been tried, such as the one implemented by the North American satellite television company Dish, which gives its users the option of watching the programs without the advertising spaces.
Initially, the service announced by Dish allows its subscribers to watch the programs broadcast by the CBS, ABC, FOX and NBC networks in the last eight days with the option to skip advertising and only programming some commands through the remote control.
This new service generated great annoyance among the owners of the networks, even three of them, CBS, FOX and NBC, sued the satellite television operator claiming that this service violates the conditions of the contract made with each of the companies and that it negatively affects advertising revenues.
The networks also argue that this is a video on demand service that has not been authorized by them, because Dish records the contents and makes them available to its users controlling the entire chain.
For its part, the operator has defended itself by ensuring that this is only an option that users receive from its premium package and that they are free to activate or not.
