Colombia. For the implementation of the second version of the European digital television model, DVB T2, adopted by Colombia at the end of last year, private television channels RCN and Caracol will use Rohde & Schwarz's THU9 transmitters.
The relationship of the two Colombian television networks with the German company began in 2010, when Colombia adopted the European digital television model in its first version and they acquired the transmitters for that model.
But with the update of the model that Colombia made last December, the channels, through the Consortium of Private National Channels, CCNP, agreed with the company to continue with the same brand for the update of the 24 equipment they had acquired.
According to the CCNP executives, the choice of these transmitters was due to energy efficiency, minimum size and low operating costs. With the 24 transmitters acquired in 2010, private channels had covered 25% of the Colombian territory with DTT. But now, with the change of teams and eight more that will be added, the covered territory will go to 50% by the end of the year.
These units feature a cooling system consisting of a compact pump and heat exchanger system, each with a redundant design for maximum reliability. In addition, they reduce the space required, also allowing transmitters of this kind of energy to be created in places where space is limited.
