Colombia. Little by little it has been announced how the television service will be offered by the Empresa de Teléfonos de Bogotá, ETB, announced at the beginning of May. It transpired that the chosen system is IPTV and that it will begin from the first half of 2013.
According to statements by Saul Kattan Cohen (photo), president of the ETB, for the new television business the company will have to make an estimated investment of US $ 50 million and will depend on the coverage of the broadband service.
And precisely for the expansion of the coverage of the broadband service, the board of directors authorized a month ago the company to borrow up to US $ 600 million for that purpose. In these two aspects, television and broadband, the company's growth expectations for the coming years are set.
The Bogotá Telephone Company had been authorized to transmit IPTV for some time, but only decided to use it until closing a purchase agreement for the cable operator Ingelcom, which has operations in several cities in eastern Colombia.
This business was planned since 2011, was closed at the beginning of May and had an approximate cost of $ 12,000 million pesos.
With the television service, the ETB will enter to compete directly with the telecommunications packaging service (telephone, television and internet) to companies that have been several years ahead offering them in Bogotá, such as Telefónica, Une and Telmex.
