Mexico. Due to the growing demand for mobile broadband applications, the Federal Telecommunications Commission (Cofetel) submits to public consultation the project called "The Radio Spectrum in Mexico. Study and actions".
This project seeks to improve the strategic planning of frequencies in telecommunications and find the best way to use frequencies that are below 4 Ghz.
Through a statement, Cofetel stressed that "among the objectives is the definition of a regulation to which actions aimed at the planning of the radio spectrum must be subject."
Cofetel and the Ministry of Communications and Transport have been interested in defining the policies to be followed in cases such as the 700 MHz and 2.5 GHz band for the deployment of mobile broadband internet technology. The first, also known as the digital dividend, is seen as optimal for bringing mobile high-speed internet to faraway populations, and for now is partly occupied by television signals.
The public consultation will be open until 27 June 2012.
