Chile. The Consejo Nacional de Televisión, CNTV, presented the Statistical Yearbook of Supply and Consumption of Open TV 2011, in which you can see the trends of television consumption among Chileans, who were in front of the television two hours and 42 minutes on average a day, about 980 hours throughout the year.
In total, 51,877 hours of programming were broadcast on free-to-air television last year, 2,163 hours more than in 2010. 90% of the audience was concentrated between chv, mega, TVN and Channel 13 channels.
The genre with the highest presence was series-miniseries with 18.7%. In second place were the miscellaneous with 17.5% and in third, the news with 17.3%. Despite the decrease in the supply of news compared to 2010 (18.5%), it was again the most consumed genre during 2011, accounting for 24% of total consumption.
The study also revealed that 23.6% of the total consumption of children between four and twelve years old was concentrated between 22:00 and 05:59, that is, unprotected hours, a figure that reveals an increase compared to 2010, when it stood at 21%.
The offer of cultural programming during 2011 was 2.3%, (1,179 hours) with respect to the total hours of programming broadcast. As for programming funded by the CNTV fund, 47 programs were broadcast, representing 284 hours of programming.
Finally, it is noteworthy that during the past year the national production was positioned on foreign programs, 61.3% versus 38.7%. In 2010 it had been 59%.
