Chile. According to a survey conducted by Directv Chile and Adimark, a company dedicated to market research and public opinion, 42% of the Chilean population says they have no knowledge about digital television.
Likewise, the survey concludes that 86% of Chileans claim to have never heard the term "analog blackout" and among those who have some knowledge about digital TV, 77% of them ignore that the norm that works for Chile is the ISBD-T.
The study called: Knowledge and expectations before the arrival of digital TV, was made with the aim of knowing the opinions and perceptions of the population in the face of technological change. "The population is not prepared yet, does not visualize well the benefits that this technology will bring and vaguely knows of an increase in image quality," said Roberto Méndez, president of Adimark.
Although the survey system is not a reliable reflection of society's thinking, it helps to set a parameter and identify the points on which the corresponding authorities have to emphasize before the definitive change approaches.
The analog blackout in Chile is scheduled for 2018. However, the digital television bill, which entered parliament in 2008, has not been passed.
