Chile. These days the regulation of digital television begins to be discussed in the Chilean congress, but the project presented by the government of that country has generated controversy among some associations of viewers, who say that their suggestions have not been taken into account.
Some senators echoed these allegations and added that the Chilean government intends to approve the bill without discussing the nearly 580 points contained in what they call a "short law."
The associations, including Mesa Ciudadanía and TV Digital, presented a document with 11 points that they consider should be included within the new television law.
Among the proposals are that the State guarantee that there is a national television channel that broadcasts exclusively educational, cultural and community television; that the composition of the members of the National Television Council (CNTV) and the National Television Directory (TVN) be modified.
In addition, at least 40% of the programming must correspond to audiovisual creations of national authors of independent production to television stations; that free reception of digital television, among others, be guaranteed.
The discussion in Chile is just beginning and we will have to wait for what decision the congress makes and if it takes into account the suggestions of the associations. To know all the proposed points click here.
